Slumdog Millionaire – Oscars!!
Yesterday, 22nd Feb 2009, as we all know, the 81st Academy Awards ceremony was held by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles, California. In this event the much talked about movie “Slumdog Millionaire” which had 10 nominations in it and swept off with 8:
- Best Picture - Christian Colson

- Directing - Danny Boyle

- Music “O Saya..” - Music by A.R. Rahman; Lyric by A.R. Rahman and Maya Arulpragasam
- Music “Jai Ho” - Music by A.R. Rahman; Lyric by Gulzar

- Music (Score) – A. R. Rahman

- Film Editing - Chris Dickens

- Sound Mixing - Ian Tapp, Richard Pryke and Resul Pookutty

- Sound Editing - Glenn Freemantle and Tom Sayers
- Cinematography - Anthony Dod Mantle

- Writing (Adapted Screenplay) - Simon Beaufoy

First, the Golden Globe awards then BAFTA awards and now Oscars. The movie also left no room for any doubts that it was the best movie at Oscars (what say Big B). On top of it, it’s almost an Indian movie and for the first time in the history, two awards were swept by an Indian Composer – A. R. Rahman (Allah Rakkha Rahman). Way to go Mr. Rahman, you are the man.
All the winning brings back to india 3 Oscars (2 by A. R. Rahman (which I need not explain) and 1 by Resul Pookutty for his sound mixing), which as per standards is the best till now. Apart from the sensational Slumdog Millionaire’s rags to riches victory other movies did their magic too but my topic of the post won’t let me stray from the current excitement.
